Extract text from pictures and file printouts

OneNote lets you extract the text from an inserted picture or file printout and paste it elsewhere for editing. This is useful if you want to, for example, copy the information from business card that you’ve scanned into OneNote and then paste the text elsewhere in OneNote or in another program, such as your Outlook Contacts.
  1. To extract text from a single picture you’ve inserted, right-click the picture, and then click Copy Text from Picture.
  2. To extract text from the images of a multiple-page file printout, right-click any of the images, and then do one of the following:
  • Click Copy Text from this Page of the Printout to only copy text from the currently selected printout image (page).
  • Click Copy Text from All the Pages of the Printout to copy the text from all of the images (pages) of an inserted printout.
  1. Navigate to a page in your notebook (or a document in another program) where you want to paste the copied text, and then press CTRL+V to paste it.
NOTE    The effectiveness of OneNote’s optical text recognition depends on the quality of the source formatting in the picture or image you inserted. When pasting text that you copied from a picture or a file printout, always look it over to make sure that your selection was recognized properly.
